Academy of Women Entrepreneurs launched in Durban
Celebrating the end of Women’s Month the U.S Consulate Durban and the Academy of Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) are offering 20 women to be a part of their one year programme that will provide them with skills required to run sustainable businesses.
The United States Consulate General Sherry Sykes says that they felt it was a perfect time to launch this opportunity during Women’s Month.
“Women’s Month allows the perfect time to launch an opportunity that we have provided for fifty million women worldwide and over a hundred and fifty women here in South Africa to engage the massive online course, to build their businesses, to employ themselves and hopefully others as they gain skills and they gain opportunities and expand their networks through this programme,” said Sykes.
Founding Director of Dream Girls Academy, Mabatho Mokiti explains how they offer a variety of programmes that innovate young women.
“We have a mentorship programme that we do for young high school girls and also for young female graduates, we then have the Academy of Women in Entrepreneurs. Where they will then learn to grow their businesses so that their businesses can thrive in the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” said Mokiti.
The launch was attended by the 20 women who were selected for the programme. One of the selected participants Sphilile Khumalo explained her journey.
“When I hear that I was chosen out of so many people, a couple of hundreds in Durban alone, I felt that this dream I am perusing is something that is worth it and I can see that I have a future. It makes me very excited,” said Khumalo.
