Department of Agriculture Covid-19 Relief Fund
The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has established a Covid-19 relief fund for farmers affected by corona virus.
The relief fund is not for every farmer, but for those farmers who supply for various companies, for example if you supply vegetables in schools, Shoprite etc, you qualify to apply for funding.
Siphamandla Vilakazi who is an Agricultural Advisor said the relief fund helps those farmers who are now using their own money in order to maintain their crops and livestock.
“Lockdown impacted negatively on farmers, especially those who grow crops and supply them to various supermarkets. Crops get easily damaged, that is why the Department of Agriculture came with a rescue plan of helping affected farmers. The applicants should be those who make an income of 20 000 to 1 million per year, and should attack all required attachments on the application,” Vilakazi added.
They receive vouchers catered for everything that they need, it can be syringes, food etc. If you have livestock you will receive a relief fund voucher that will cater all your livestock needs, and if you grow crops you will receive voucher for seeds, fertilizers etc.
However, if an applicant has missing documents their requests will be unsuccessful.
