Unemployed MUT graduate now his own boss
“I did not let unemployment define my life.”
These are the words of an unemployed graduate, Njabulo Mabaso who now owns a company called Compte Group.
Mabaso, (26) originally from (Ermelo) Mpumalanga obtained his National Diploma in Marketing at Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) in 2018.
Just like many graduates, Mabaso endured difficulties in finding a job hence unemployment rate is very high in South Africa. Luckily, he managed to secure an internship at Izwi Lo-Mzansi Fm for Social Media Management. However, due to Covid-19 he lost his job.
Despite having many qualifications, like Social Media Marketing and Introduction to Programming and Data Science obtained from Google Academy and 365 Data science the unemployment spell continued for Mabaso.
“I have no patience for something I don’t see. I cannot just wait for a job or interview; why not create a job for myself? ”, he said.
Mabaso started his business in May 2020, he currently sells woods and coal. His goal is to supply his product nation-wide and he wants to start supplying franchises like Spar.
“My business is doing well and the support I receive is very inspiring and amazing”, he added.
Mabaso’s goals for his business company is to sell and supply woods, coal and charcoal, transportation of goods, agricultural activities (crop farming) and general construction (baking bricks).
