A frantic search is underway for a one-month old baby boy who was kidnapped two days ago in the ‘Maritzburg CBD.
Olwethu Madlala was taken from a home affairs branch on Church Street while his mother was filling documents for his birth certificate. He was just four-weeks old at the time.
His mother’s heartache turned to jubilation when she found her baby unharmed.
Madlala spotted a woman who allegedly stole her child in April 2014 at a mall in Edendale in Pietermaritzburg on Monday. She immediately called the police and they arrived within a few minutes. They arrested the suspect.
It is alleged that on Tuesday morning, 15 April 2014, Madlala was busy completing documents for a birth certificate for her 1-month-old baby boy, Olwethu Madlala. She was approached by a woman who offered to hold her child while she continued to complete her documents. Madlala then handed over her child and the child’s milk bottle to the woman and continued to write. A short while later, she turned around and noticed that the woman and her child were nowhere to be found. Madlala immediately conducted a search in the vicinity for her missing child.
“The baby is now three-months old and he is in a good condition,” police said in a press statement.
