The longest promenade in Africa was officially opened on Sunday, in Durban. This R380-million promenade is set to raise the city’s standard on the global tourism stage.
The 8km promenade is the largest in the whole of Africa, running from Ushaka Marine World to the Blue Lagoon.
The grand opening was an eventful day that kicked off with a fun run, lots of fun activities and a series of entertainment. The momentous day was led by the eThekwini Mayor Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda and other delegates.
“It will enhance our tourism as a city,” said Kaunda.
He also added that what the government needs from the youth is innovation, to bring new ideas instead of sitting back and waiting to complain all the time.
Economic Development MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube who was also amongst the delegates said that small businesses will benefit greatly from the development.
“We are already reaping rewards from this promenade. As you would see there is going to be small businesses that are going to be opening here from now on moving into the festive season,” said Dube-Ncube.
