ALL SET FOR PROCUREMENT PROCEDURE

Seven ANC members of Parliament are set to sit on an ad hoc committee that will look into the public protector’s report on the procurement of the IEC’s head office.
The seven ANC MPs that were recommended for the ad hoc committee are Labour Portfolio committee member Buti Manamela, Johnny de Lange, the Water and Environmental Affairs Portfolio committee chair, Public Service and Administration Portfolio committee chair Joyce Moloi-Moropa, Science and Technology Portfolio committee whip Lindelwa Dunjwa; Maggie Maunye, Home Affairs portfolio committee chair; and Andre Gaum, Home affairs portfolio committee whip.
Justice portfolio committee chair Luwellyn Landers was recommended as the ad hoc committee chairperson. Meanwhile, Public Protector Thuli Madonsela emphasised that IEC chairperson Pansy Tlakula should be brought to the book and made to account for her actions.
“The Parliament should consider taking action against IEC chair Pansy Tlakula for her grossly irregular role in the procurement of the building,” said Madonsela.
Madonsela found improper conduct and maladministration on Tlakula’s part, and a conflict of interest involving a co-director, who is apparently her ex-lover.
Thaba Mufamadi had a 20% stake in Abland, which was awarded the R320m contract to lease the building. Mufamadi is an MP and chairs parliament’s finance portfolio committee.
