Just days before its annual general meeting to be held in Durban on the 14th and 15th of November, the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) seem to have everything on set to end the year with a bang.
SALGA is a self-governing entity that amalgamates all the municipalities as provisioned for in the South African Constitution. Its major mandate is to look after the interest of municipalities in all the corners of the country.
Sabelo Gwala, Provincial Executive Officer in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), told members of the media that this forthcoming KZN Provincial meeting is going to provide municipalities in the province with an opportunity to reflect upon the year 2013 and also make projections for the forthcoming year.
“This is the only meeting where you get a taste of the annual programs of the municipality, form the municipalities themselves,” said Gwala.
Apart from various representatives from different municipalities, Premier in the Province, Senzo Mchunu, will also attend the Provincial Members Assembly KwaZulu-Natal together with executive mayors, mayors and many other representatives from government.
Gwala noted that at the moment, SALGA faces a big challenge when it comes to getting skilled manpower to continue the smooth running of the organisation.
“One of the biggest challenges as SALGA is we need young people that we can train to know not just local governance but to know organised local governance.”
