ANC denies DA’s claims about Gumede’s appointment as chair of Cogta

The ANC has denied claims about Zandile Gumede’s appointment as Cooperative Governance Committee Chair in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature.
During the past week, news has been circulating, especially on social media, that Gumede was appointed for the role. The DA made claims that the appointment was set to take place today, according to the document they saw.
ANC KZN spokesperson, Nhlakanipho Ntombela, said the claims are not true and that the DA statement is a “political hallucination”.
“There is no such a decision of Zandile Gumede being elected as a chairperson of the committee in COGTA taking place today. We even told them to check even the legislature programme. The legislature programme is clear that today there is a legislature sitting and an ordinary Portfolio committee meeting,” said Ntombela.
Ntombela further said that there is no meeting taking place to elect a chairperson of the portfolio committee of COGTA, and that the document that the DA saw is a document allocating a new member to a different portfolio committee she will serve on the Legislature.
“She is going to the Legislature as an ordinary member and as an ordinary member of the Legislature she must be allocated to some portfolio committee to execute her responsibilities. That is the end of it, nothing more,” he said.
