The man convicted of killing Anni Dewani was admitted to Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town last Tuesday.
The Western Cape Department of Correctional Services Spokesperson Simphiwe Xako said that Xolile Mngeni was admitted to the Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town on Tuesday, but he was unable to comment on his condition.
“The standard procedure is that whenever an offender is admitted to hospital or any other institution that is outside our prisons, we always deploy a security personal just to make sure that everything is normal,” he added.
Xolile was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2011 and a year later, the Western Cape High Court convicted him alongside Zola Robert Tongo and Mziwamadoda Qwabe for the murder of Anni Dewani.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment with an additional 15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances and another five years for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Annie Dewani (28) was on her honeymoon with newlywed Shrien Dewani when she was shot dead in a staged hijacking in Gugulethu on 13th November 2010.
Her husband Shrien was extradited to South Africa in April to face charges related to her murder.
