ANOTHER HIT AND RUN

An unknown bus driver fled an accident scene on the corner of Williams and Sydney Road on Monday after knocking over a pedestrian following reckless driving.
Ellias Mbili (28) was crossing Williams Road with his girlfriend and kids on Monday morning when suddenly a non-branded bus jumped a red robot and knocked him over.
The girlfriend of Mbili, Suzan Banda (25) explained the incident as “horrific and heartless”.
“I was carrying bags and he was pushing the trolley full of our luggage and food,” Banda explained. “We crossed the road which allowed us to cross at the time as it was green for us. Then came a bus in a very high speed approaching the robots where Mbili was trying to control the trolley which was heavy then was hit down by the bus.”
While Suzan was giving the statement to the Metro Police, the bus driver then took off in the presence of the police and managed to escape without being followed.
ER24 medical attendant said, “The man is lucky to be alive, considering he was hit in the left side of his head which is a critical body part. He also has suffered severe damages to his leg, and no life was lost during the course of this.”
An informal trader who witnessed the accident, Nomusa Mhlongo (53) said, “I do not understand how the police let him run away whereas they are quick in taking our stock as we are told we are selling illegally in the roads.”
Metro police officer Inspector Mthembu who was at the accident scene told Iziko News that accidents seem to appear frequently in that spot. Last week a motorbike collided with a taxi in the same intersection.
“This is the second accident we have attended to in two weeks at the same spot, in as much as the passenger may or may have not crossed a red robot, at no given time should the involved persons run away from the scene because you prove to be guilty. The bus driver will be caught very soon and a case will be opened (against) him.
The man was rushed to a nearby hospital.
