Auditor-General has found irregularities in the R350 monthly grant
Auditor-General has found that more than 30 000 people are not qualified for the R350 per month special unemployment grant benefit provided by South African Social Security Agency.
The Covid-19 audit report provided by the Auditor-General’s Office on Wednesday found that there was a lack of co-operation between government departments and the use of unlicensed taxpayers’ PPEs. Auditor-General Thembekile Kimi Makwetu says their audit found gaps in the SASSA policies.
“Our data analytics that we used also to scrutinize all of the records of the 4 million odd people that where in this database. We identified that somewhere around over 30 000 beneficiaries require further investigation,” Said Auditor-General Makwethu.
According to the Auditor-General’s report amongst these are people working in government, recipients of UIF payments, other social grants and government pension that also picked up a benefiting respect of this R350. “We believe that it was not intended for people like those,” Added the General.
