An infant was found dead in a rubbish bin in South Beach earlier this week.
According to the police, an unknown homeless man was looking for food but to his surprise he found a foetus aged between 4-5 months.
Siyasanda Mathunzi, a resident who was called by the homeless man, told the Journalismiziko that she was accompanying her boyfriend when she was asked by this
homeless man to help the infant.
“I was so shocked when this man said there is a baby inside the bin, so I went to fetch my towel.
In shock, I walked towards the bin only to find a child who was still in a placenta,” explained Mathunzi
Sandile Mncwango, a security guard of the Ocean Ridge flat was also at the scene.
Shocked at what had happened, he said, “The police should investigate the security guard who was on
duty during the night maybe he would have seen the woman who threw the rubbish bin early this morning.”
Constable Thokozani Mabizela, who was among the police on the scene said, “We have already started investigating since this is a crucial case. We have started searching the close
flats to look at their camera footage to see if the suspect can be identified but no arrests have been made as yet.”
Police plead with anyone who might have information of the infant’s mother to contact them and report the crime.
