Body of a missing pupil found on the beach
An inquest docket has been opened for the investigation of a 16-year-old Benjamin Pillay who was found dead on Monday evening at the Illovo Beach.
Benjamin Pillay, a pupil at Isipingo Secondary school was last seen on Saturday.
The South African Police Service Spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele confirmed the incident and that the inquest docket is being investigated by the Amanzimtoti SAPS.
“It is alleged that last night the police officers from the Durban Search and Rescue and other role players were called out to Winkelspruit to recover the body of a 16-year-old boy washed up on the beach. The victim went missing on 7 March 2020. The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated,” said Colonel Mbele.
The circumstances surrounding Pillay’s death are still unknown, however, the police are still investigating. Pillay’s next of kin and various community members were on scene when the body was discovered.
Members of the community have expressed their condolences to the Pillay family and friends during this distressing time.
