The youth of Mandawe and surrounding areas in Scottsburg, south coast of Durban, showcased their talent hoping to find a sponsor at the new entertainment spot called Boss
Zonke on Saturday.
Young people like Lebohang Mhlaluka (25) who is a DJ (disc jockey) had an opportunity to show his community what he can do with music.
According to Mhlaluka, he has been a DJ for almost 10 years, especially when he was still in high school.
He said that he has played in almost all the gigs in the south coast region, and all were a success because he now has his own music business.
However, he feels that a place like Boss Zonke will put his career in a good spot.
“For someone like me, in a place like this where most of the business gurus hang out, I think we are more likely to get sponsors. I really applaud the owners of this place for their initiative
to help the youth and to keep them away from the streets and expose them to the public,” added Mhlaluka.
UMdoni Mayor Councillor Siyabonga Khwela commended Boss Zonke for their involvement in the uplifting of the community.
“I am happy to see young people doing positive things with their lives, this can be a big project, it has potential to grow,” he said.
He said that tourists will tell you they want the taste of the country, this is what this place represent “Kasi Life”.
He added that working with the Department of Economic Development they can help businesses like this.
According to Syethemba Bhengu (31), co-owner of Boss Zonke, his business is just an entertainment spot and a place where people should come and relax, but one of his means of
improving the economy of the country.
“By improving the economy I mean that I have hired more than 8 people permanently and some are part-time staff. The idea is to help the youth and the community as a whole which is
why I am also a member of the Community Policing Forum,” added Bhengu.
