“I have worked tirelessly to build the project of One SA for All. It’s been my greatest honour to serve the people of SA and will continue to do so,” says Maimane.
The former leader of the official opposition party in South Africa, Democratic Alliance has left the party a day after he stepped down as the leader.
In a tweet, on Thursday morning Mmusi said, “I have today resigned from the DA and Parliament. Thank you to the people of this country for your faith in our nation. God bless SA.”
These actions come after his predecessor, Helen Zille was elected to the second-most senior post in the party, this was done as an effort by the DA to rescue declining electoral support.
The federal executive is expected to have an emergency meeting to consider legal advice over who will take over the currently leaderless party. FedEx chairperson Athol Trollip who was next in line, followed Maimane in resigning.
This is a developing story.
