South Africa’s ultimate wedding show, The Wedding Expo, took place at the Moses Mabhida Presidential Suit on Saturday, 8th August 2016.
The Expo is hosted four times a year around the country, and was held in Durban for the first time, on Saturday. Exhibitors showcased their services and products, ranging from wedding dresses, all the way to SA Home Loans.
Managing Director of the show, Amanda Cunningham, said she was surprised by the growth of the wedding industry in South Africa.
“Our show has been around for 16 years and the industry has skyrocketed since then. Brides find everything they need here, from dresses to wedding cakes to attorneys who help with prenuptial agreements,” said Cunningham.
The show operates as a platform for exposure for all kinds of brands for all kinds of brides. Couples who attended described the show as being very informative and fun.
Madge Little, Circulation Director at the Expo for Glamour magazine said the show was the perfect way to reach their target market and the right age group.
“Today we are selling magazines and subscriptions. Girls love glamour, they get excited by it,” she said.
Daniela Nel, consultant for one of the largest bridal retail companies, Bride&Co, described the show as very dreamy.
“Clients come here and they are mesmerized by the glamour. It is also very informative because it helps them be able to compare different brands and different prizes. Our merchandisers travel around the world in order to cater for all brides and grooms and also helps us stay in touch with the current trends,” said Nel.
The show did not shy away from diversity as it also hosted exhibitors who showcased traditional wedding attire.
Imbali bridal shop was one of the traditional attire exhibitors who showcased a range of isiZulu bridal wear.
“We specialize in traditional attire for both the bride and the groom however you will find a few ‘white’ wedding dresses but our main focus is African wedding attire,” concluded Nonhle Cele, a consultant for the Imbali bridal shop.
The Wedding Expo is set to take on Johannesburg next, on the 26 and 27th of August 2016.
