No arrests have been made yet following a failed cash in transit heist outside Bridge city mall in KwaMashu.
This comes after 7 unknown suspects attempted to rob CIT guards who were transferring money to their vehicle on Monday. A shoot-out between the guards and the suspects caused turmoil in the mall as bystanders feared for their lives. One bystander got injured in the midst of the chaos and was attended to by the paramedics that came to the scene.
Two of the 7 suspects were shot dead on the scene and one guard was wounded and rushed to hospital. It is alleged that the other suspects fled the scene in a white Toyota quantum, and the direction in which they fled is unknown.
Police Spokesperson, Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo said that a statement has not been released because there were too few enquiries. However there are investigating on the matter.
“We recovered a rifle and a pistol from the incident and no further arrests have been made yet,” said Naidoo.
Videos and images of the incident went viral on social media yesterday, Lieutenant Colonel Brenda Muridili, confirmed that it was an attempted robbery. She also wished the injured guard a speedy recovery.
“We recovered two weapons but do not know if any cash was taken,” said Muridili
A man hunt is still underway for the remaining robbers involved in the Cash in Transit heist.
