Durban rabies drive

Andiswa Kunene
The eThekwini Environmental Health Department is calling on pet owners to vaccinate their cats and dog against rabies.
From August 2020, the municipality will be doing an awareness drive in various areas and pet owners are urged to take responsibility to prevent the spread of rabies. Owners are advised to look for the signs and the symptoms of an animal with rabies which include:
- Hallucinations
- Barking and snapping at nothing
- Profuse salivation
- Damage to the spinal cord; jaws or throat paralysis, making it unable to eat or drink
- Aggression and attack on behavioural changes
- Irritability, restlessness and anxiety
- Difficult in swallowing as if it is choking on a bone
- Avid appetite even eating non-food items such as stones and dirt.
If your pet displays any of these signs or to find out more on when the municipality will be coming to your area contact 031 311 1555 or 031 902 6253.
