Proud parents, students and lecturers from the Chemical Engineering Department gathered at the Durban University of Technology’s Hotel School on Friday to celebrate students’ academic excellence during its annual academic awards.
The awards acknowledged hardworking students, serving as a way to show recognition to those that have done well through out the year.
“Recognising the students great input is important as the course is hard and it is a huge deal for those who manage to complete it,” Head of Department Dr. Maggie Chetty shared.
Top achiever, Tegan van Zyl, was very happy about how far he has come and gave most of the credit to his lecturers.
“I put a lot of hard work over the years and I’m glad it has paid off,” said Van Zyl.
He graduated Cum Laude.
Gayle van Vuuren was beaming with excitement. “I am extremely proud of my son, he had only good experiences while studying at DUT,” said proud mother Van Vuuren.
Van Zyl is now working full time for Fuel Firing Systems Refiners and his peers respect and look up to him.
Van Zyl’s mother highly recommended the university to other parents as her son is also furthering his studies part time.
The awards were successful and concluded with a scrumptious meal prepared by the hospitality management students.
