The Durban University of Technology’s debate team is going to participate in the South African National Universities Debating Championships at the University of Venda.
The SANUDC is an annual tournament hosted by South African universities aimed at uniting young intellects from across the country in critical thought and debate over a seven day
period.
Sakhile Mnqadi, who is the founder and president of the DUT Debating Union, believes that this will be a great opportunity for DUT to shine at the higher stage.
“This tournament is a great for students and it gives one access to bigger tournaments such as the Pan-African Universities Debating Championships (PANS) and the World Universities
Debating Championships,” said Mnqadi.
Pearl Zwane, who is one of the students that will be representing DUT at the championship, hopes to achieve the best out of the tournament which is to come back with the tittle.
“I am very happy about this opportunity and I must thank the DUT for making sure that we as University student do participate in such events, I’m very delighted,” said Zwane.
The DUT debating Union plans to make sure that the participants does not pay anything during the championships.
“Currently we are seeking funding from Student governance to cover nationals’ registration and transport to Venda, registration will cover all food and accommodation for participants,” explained Mnqadi.
The students that will represent DUT are currently undergoing training that aims to sharpen their debating skills.
