A suspect linked to the murder of the late Durban University of Technology student Sandile Ndlovu has been arrested and made an appearance in the Durban Magistrate Court on Wednesday.
The 18-year old Industrial Engineering student was allegedly assaulted and stabbed, his skull cracked open in a lecture room at the Steve Biko Campus in September and later died in Hospital.
DUT spokesperson Alan Khan confirmed the arrest of the suspect.
“Following the tragic incident last month, the University worked closely with the South African Police Services on the case. The University decided to appoint a team of private investigators to assist with the murder investigation. The private investigators made a positive breakthrough a few days ago. Our team informed the. SAPS and a suspect was immediately arrested,” said Khan.
Family spokesperson Tsepo Mokoena confirmed on his Twitter account that the suspect had been arrested and his application for bail was denied.
“I would like to confirm that the reports that a suspect has been formally charged and bail has been denied for the murder of our Son Sandile are true and we await the date of the court proceedings. Your continued prayers are truly humbling,” said Mokoena.
