EMBO MAN CONVICTED FOR RAPE

Gobizazi Mdlalose (52) was found guilty for rape and sentenced to 16 years imprisonment by the Pinetown Regional Court on Thursday morning.
On 20 November 2012, the victim was sent by her aunt to Mdlalose’s place to fetch oil at Embo area in Hillcrest. On her arrival at the accused place, he forced her into the house where she was raped. She was also threatened not to tell anyone about the incident.
A case was eventually opened at the Hillcrest Police Station for further investigation. The Pinetown Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit took over the docket for further investigation.
During their thorough investigation, the accused was arrested and charged for rape.
“It was not an easy task to conclude the investigation. However, the teams that worked together to prove the case did exceptionally well and that led to Mdlalose’s arrest,” said police spokesperson Captain Zwane in a press statement.
He added, “The accused was taken to court where he was convicted and sentenced after court appearances. The State denied him bail and he had been in custody since his arrest.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended Pinetown Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit members, for the tremendous investigation that led to the conviction and sentencing of the accused.
“The ruthless criminals who abuse vulnerable women do not have a place in our society,” she said.
