The Department of Environmental Health celebrated its annual student’s awards in elegance at an inspiring event held at the Durban University of Technology, Ritson campus conference centre on Friday.
Head of Department Shanaz Ghuman said that recognising the students is very important as it changes their attitude towards school work.
“The awards motivate hard working students and acknowledge their work produced throughout the year,” said Ghuman.
She mentioned that some students start off with difficulties but end up in places where you least expect them to go.
“We go all out to help students with our support system and responsible lectures. I am proud of this wonderful and active committed bunch,” she added.
Guests included the Faculty of Health Science Management, representatives, staff and students.
Top student Zane Oscar Bennett, who walked away with 5 awards is an extended 4-year programme student in environmental health studies.
“I am grateful, it was never easy there were a lot of sleepless nights and lot of hard work but at the end dedication always pays off. I always thank God for guidance and strength, my lectures and my family they have all contributed to how well I have done,” said Bennett.
He added that many people need to understand that it’s not about where you come from but where you going.
He added, “People tend to think when you in the extended programme you are not clever or smart but it’s not about that but the hard work and determination towards your work, where you want to see yourself in the near future and what you plan to achieve.”
