Excitement over resumption of nutrition programmes in schools
The Court’s decision for National School Nutrition Programme to resume brings great happiness and emotional relief to the less privileged.
The high court in Pretoria has issued a ruling that the government’s National School Nutrition Programme must resume. The programme will resume for all learners even for those who have not yet returned to school. This happens after the Equal Education and section 27 took the department of education to court.
This has been a great emotional relief for families who have been badly affected by the lockdown. Sisanda Gcabashe who is a mother of three children said ever since she lost her job due to lockdown life has been difficult.
“I’ve been struggling to make ends meet in the house. As a parent nothing hurts more than not being able to provide for your children,” she said.
She also added that she is extremely excited now that the nutrition programme will resume. She is not worried much about her starving if her children are full and will not die from hunger.
The School Governing Body is also delighted about the Courts decision. Nomusa Sithole, an SGB member said they are happy with what the court has decided. They are hoping that everyone will be served fairly and equally.
The court has then given the Department of education 10 days to produce a plan on how the programme will be resumed.
