Four suspects were arrested Wednesday in connection with a robbery that took place at a Spar Supermarket in Waterloo on May 31st 2014.
A multi-disciplinary approach which included law enforcement agencies the Hawks, K9 units, Verulam detectives, Crime Intelligence and Cavandish Mobile Task Team apprehended the four suspects. KZN police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said, “A suspected stolen Ford Bantam, three unlicensed firearms and ammunition as well as cash suspected to have been taken during the robbery at Spar were recovered.”
According to Zwane, recovered fire arms will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if they were used I other crimes in the province.
Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonye Ngobeni commended the members for what she called a job well done. Ngobeni said, “Our crime intelligence will work hard to establish if the arrested suspects are not linked to other business robberies in the province.”
The suspects are alleged to have demanded cash and they escaped with an undisclosed amount of money as well as a firearm belonging to a security guard. According to Zwane, the suspects are due to appear in the Verulam Magistrates Court soon, facing charges of business robbery possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
