GIVE LIFE PROJECTS LAUNCHES TAXI CAMPAIGN
By: Winston Sibanda
Give Life Projects (GLP) launched the Wiser Driver, Commuter and Owner Campaign in a bid to enhance communication for better service in the taxi industry on Friday.
Founder of the GLP, Brian Mbambo, said that the campaign was aimed at improving service delivery and safety within the taxi industry.
He said they have developed an USSD code (*120*4577#), which passengers can dial to report poor service delivery or safety issues while in transit.
Mbambo said that their projects are not aimed at complicating drivers’ jobs.
“This initiative is not an attack on the taxi drivers. The code also offers the option to complement good service,” said Mbambo.
Lindelani Dlomo from Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA), said that it is essential that commuters have a voice since they determine the growth of the taxi industry.
He applauded GLP for their initiative.
He said, “this is a wonderful initiative which is a first of its kind and it will take the taxi industry to the next level.”
He said, “When sending a complaint, the system will ask a few questions to verify the authenticity of the case.”
He said in January next year, they will release statistics of how useful the campaign has been in ensuring safe service.
Sibusiso Ngcobo, who spoke on behalf of the taxi associations, said it is pleasing to see people coming up with different initiatives which promote the taxi industry.
He applauded the GLP for coming up with the campaign. He said the taxi associations acknowledged this campaign and are prepared to work with the commuters to ensure safety on the roads.
