Glass particles found in Liqui Fruit juice
Pioneer Foods has informed the National Consumer Commission (NCC) to recall a batch of Liqui Fruit red grape still 330ml cans after glass particles were found in some of the cans.
Acting consumer commissioner, Thezi Mabuza released a statement on Saturday saying they had not received a full notification in terms of the product safety recall guidelines.
“The information we have is that there are glass particles found in the product and this poses a health risk to consumers if consumed. We urge consumers who bought this product to stop consuming it immediately and return it back to the retailer of purchase for a full refund,” said Mabuza.
Pioneer Foods spokesperson said an investigation as to the cause and extent of the issue is underway but as a precautionary measure. The company has urged consumers to check their cans for the following batch numbers product code: 27327, single unit bar-code: 6001240225592 which would be printed on the side of the can. Best before date: 01.04.2021 or 02.04.2021.
All other products were not affected according to Pioneer Foods.
Mabuza said the NCC will monitor the recall of the product when they have received the official notice.
This has scared consumers as they feel like they cannot trust Liqui Fruit.
“I like juice, I do not like acid. Liqui Fruit is my go-to brand so after hearing about the news I panicked because I drank it in the morning. I had to pour it in a jug to see whether I will find the particles or not, even though I did not I am still paranoid,” said Gcobisa Sodo.
