Health Minister and his wife test positive for Covid-19
Health minister Dr Zweli Mkhize, and wife Dr May Mkhize, have tested positive for Covid-19.
In a statement released by the National Department of Health Mkhize explains that him and his wife were not feeling well.
“We decided to go test yesterday when I started showing mild symptoms. I was feeling abnormally exhausted and as the day progressed, I started losing appetite. My wife had a cough, was dizzy and extremely exhausted. Given her symptoms, the doctors advised that she must be admitted for observation and rehydration,” he said.
Mkhize further explained that he is quarantined at home and both him and his wife remain optimistic that they will fully recover. He urged all South Africans to continue adhering to health protocols, and do not neglect wearing masks, social distancing and sanitizing.
In the last week there has been close to 2000 new daily cases of Covid-19 infections.
In the Eastern Cape alone approximately 30 students from Fort Hare University, East London campus have tested positive after attending parties that did not adhere to alert level 1 regulations, there were no masks worn, social distancing was not observed and there was no sanitizing of hands.
There are fears that this could be a second wave of Covid-19 and there might be a resurgence of the pandemic.
Nhlakanipho Mbeje, DUT student believes that the possibilities of a second wave of Covid-19 could kill our economy even further.
“It is hard for me to believe that there could be second wave of Covid-19 that might resurface. Our economy is bad enough due to the first wave, many have lost their jobs and businesses. I don’t even want to imagine where the second wave would leave us as a country,” said Mbeje
Khayelihle Dlamini, DUT student agrees that if Covid-19 was to resurface stronger than the first time we are in trouble.
Dlamini further stated “Dr Zweli Mkhize getting the virus also shows that no matter how much you protect yourself you can still be a high risk in getting infected and that is scary,” he said.
