Hope for the homeless

It was a day filled with joy and happiness as homeless people reunited with their families at King Dinuzulu (Botha) Park.
In honour of Mandela day, the Siphila Ngomusa Foundation urged homeless people and those who lost relatives to the streets to gather at the park and help each other.
Founder of the foundation, Nomvula Shale said that they are helping homeless people by showing them that they care and want them to be reunited with their families.
“We have clothes for them and we prepared lunch for them,” said Shale.
Siphila Ngomusa, in partnership with community radio Izwi Lomzansi, planned the event to help those who are in need.
Victor Xaba popularly known as Bhuti Maswidi, a radio presenter for Izwi Lomzansi FM said that the radio station received complaints from some of their listeners about crime committed by ‘amaphara’ and other social issues related to homelessness.
“Our main focus is on having them go back to their homes and in their communities. We are taking some of them back to their homes, while others are going to rehabs that we work closely with,” said Xaba.
Those who are seeking their long lost and missing relatives are encouraged to meet at the park every weekend.
