Hammersdale residences came out in their numbers to experience first hand the long anticipated Itheku FM (89.0) launch at Hammersdale Junction this Saturday.
IthekuFM is a gospel station that aims to send the word of God through entertainment, promote local businesses and talents.
Station manager Simphiwe Makhaba said that the station existed before- all they did was revive the station.
Makhaba revealed that the most crucial aspect of the station is to groom local talent.
“We are just volunteers that want to save our youth from society’s danger by introducing them to God and his wonders,” he said.
Representatives from the various church groups in Hammersdale expressed their enthusiasm on the platform they have been given.
Reverend Bongani Ngcobo from the Roman Catholic Church, which was part of the church groups said, “IthekuFM is a very important tool because it educate and empower our hopeless youth. It will also help them sharpen their skill as local residence will play major role at the station.”
The station got support from local businesses and the ward councillor Lucky Mngwengwe.
Mngwengwe mentioned that he will always support initiatives that will contribute positively to the community.
“The youth of this community needs all the inspiration they can get. The station will open doors to those who are talented in the various aspects within the station,” said Mngwengwe.
During his address, Makhaba emphasised that the community must protect and nurture the station.
“We have had a station before and it was unsuccessful because of the lack of support from the community. I strongly advice each and everyone in here to spread the word and promote the station,” he concluded.
