John Moodey Resigns from the DA

One of the long serving members of the Democratic Alliance (DA) John Moodey has announced his resignation from the party in a press conference on Wednesday.
“I’m deeply saddened, uncomfortable and I am no longer at home in the DA. To stay for the sake of earning a salary isn’t an option for me,” said Moodey.
Moodey believes the party has lost direction. He said the party does not care about the majority of black South Africans. Moodey stated that he is leaving the DA because the party is not what it used to be when he joined 22 years ago.
“I did not get involved in the DA to be an opposition party in perpetuity, I got involved in the DA to fight for freedom of South Africa and build democracy and to become a party in government,” he explained.
He stated that Helen Zille is causing irreplaceable damages to the party. He further stated that he no longer felt at ease in the DA and he can no longer stay because it goes against his principles.
“I can’t even sleep in a DA shirt now, these people don’t know what apartheid did to us,” he stated.
The DA said the departure of Moodey is unfortunate and unnecessary. The DA stated that Moodey is making a mistake as the DA is the only party that can unseat the ANC.
