The famous slogan of a giant chicken franchise, KFC, ‘It’s Finger lickin good’ is hitting a pause button as it is not suitable for what the world is facing now considering COVID-19. People complained about the slogan in March saying the licking of fingers is not advisable during COVID- 19 time.
The health officials have urged people to stop touching their faces in order to help and stop the spread of COVID-19. This has resulted into KFC saying, “Our slogan does not feel right, we will be pressing pause on using it in our advertising, for a little while.” The brand said is a statement. The fried chicken restaurant chain has blurred the slogan in all the old billboards and signs even on their YouTube page.
Global Chief Marketing Officer, Catherin Tan Gillespie at KFC said that in a statement, “We find ourselves in a unique situation- having iconic slogan that doesn’t quite fit in the current environment, however the menu is still the same.”
KFC also assured people that the slogan will return once the time is right. KFC is now releasing new images of advertising posters and packaging with the words of the slogan blurred and pixelated.
Marketing director at KFC South Africa, Suhayl Limbada said that, “People should be on the lookout for the change in branding in the next coming weeks.”
