KwaMashu residents frustrated over damaged sewage system
Frustrations continue to hover over the residents of the K section in KwaMashu as a case of a damaged sewage system that has been reported on numerous occasions with no response from the eThekwini Municipality.
The sewage system has been unattended by the municipality for the three months since it cracked. Residents claim that they have tried contacting the officials but no one has availed themselves
Thamsanqa Sithole who has been living in the area for years spoke on how the environment they live in is unhealthy and poses a high health risk
“Children also play in this dirty water and our livestock that we eat also drinks from this contaminated water,” he said.
Sithole claims that the residents have tried submitting a complaint to the ward councillor with regards to the busted sewage system, but their complaints were ignored with no feedback.
“We have called the eThekwini Municipality for more than four times. They have given us about three reference numbers but still, have not shown up. One of the reference numbers was apparently used and I don’t know how since this sewage system has not been fixed,” added Sithole.
The residents of KwaMashu say that the eThekwini Municipality is not catering for communities and that the Municipality does not play its role.
Attempts to contact the municipality were unsuccessful.
