KZN Health MEC visits Edendale Hospital
Disturbance of normal operations in hospitals led the KZN health MEC to visit Edendale Hospital.
Health MEC Ms. Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu paid a visit at Edendale Hospital which is a walking distance from DUT’s Indumiso campus. The MEC found that the hospital has enough personal protective equipment for the pandemic and is following all the necessary precautions.
One patient said COVID-19 has been a blessing in disguise because the hospital is always spotless.
“They have changed the way they operate, everything is quick now. We no longer stand in long queues just to get our cards and see a doctor or even at the pharmacy.” Said a 50-year-old Eunice Nzaca.
However, the hospital has a challenge because there are no occupational safety committee. Furthermore, the hospital promised that by the end of the week the committee will be there and properly working.
“It is very important that management within the department, including in our facilities works together with organised labour because they are our partners. It does not help to work in solo and to fight each other. What’s important is that we work together to fight this particular virus,” said the MEC.
The MEC also paid tribute to all healthcare workers involved in the fight against COVID-19 across the province. She also emphasised that the healthcare workers must have all the essential tools at the hospital and ward level in order to save lives.
