Digital marketing will never be the same now that Digify Africa has been officially launched in Durban.
The programme has taken the initiative to innovate, modernise and engage the youth from Johannesburg and Cape Town in the digital era, and now it’s time for Durban to be part of this 4IR initiative.
Senior project manager of Digify Africa, Luleka Mossie, was more than eager to tell us about what is Digify Africa and the plans to introduce Digify to Durban. He describes Digify Africa as a youth hub that grooms young minds in the digital marketing sphere.
“We are a youth driven NGO that is located in Johannesburg. We do digital skills training as well as have a training network built into our training organisation. We have multiple programs running across South Africa and we also run programmes in Nigeria, Kenya and so forth,” she said.
Mossie explains how there was not set criteria for the programme but wanted all people to participate.
“The criteria for the participants was quite open we just need you to actually have a matric and have an interest in digital so we don’t have any degree or any sort of experience, criteria within the programme. We just wanted everyone to have the opportunity to participate,” said Mossie.
Owethu Makhathini, lead trainer at Digify Africa described her duties and responsibilities at the organisation.
“I teach them everything that has to do with the digital marketing industry that includes web designer developments, strategy, personal finances and goal setting,” said Makhathini.
The 10 week programme saw many hopefuls applying but only a few were selected to be part of the programme.
Thabang Lubisi, one of the selected candidates explains his short journey that qualified him for the programme.
“I was quite afraid because they specified that they were looking for 20 young people of which about 250 applications were sent through and had to go throw the interview stage. Four or five days before the programme was supposed to start I got a call for the interview and then after I was informed that I made it through,” He said.
