A man was confirmed dead at the scene and five injured on Saturday night, after his car overturned and fell down a hill.
The accident took place on Hilldale Road and Newlands West Drive, at Newlands West north of Durban.
“The driver was speeding up Hilldale road and failed to stop at the T-junction.
The car skidded and overturned down a hill,” said Sasha Ramdial an eyewitness Members of the community stopped Newlands West police to alert them about the incident.
“We were flagged down by members of the community who had witnessed the incident and an ambulance and more members were called to the scene,” said Constable Siyanda Ndelu of the
Newlands East police station.
He added, “The silver grey Chevorett Lumina was upside down and the Jaws of Life had to be used to get the victims out of the vehicle. Two of the victims sustained very bad injuries and
were sent to EThekwini hospital and the others were sent to Addington Hospital.”
According to Ndelu there was speculation of alcohol abuse and the police did not take statements from family on the scene. “We want to get to the bottom of the cause of the accident and what
happened,” said Ndelu.
The case is still under investigation.
