NEW HOUSES, NEW HOPE

During his State of the Nation address earlier this year, President Jacob Zuma said that the government is working hard to speed up service delivery, especially in informal settlements.
The Izikhulise project, which is a tender project run by Shaun Mpisane, has changed the lives of the uMlazi G Section residents.
The project has created job opportunities for the residents, slowly eradicating informal settlements in the area.
Hundreds of informal structures have been replaced with quality houses.
Sandile Khawula received a house after waiting for 8 years.
“We lived in a slum and now we live in a decent house with a toilet- it is all thanks to Zikhulise,” Khawula said.
The unemployment rate in the area has also decreased due to the Zikhulise Project creating job opportunities for residents.
Zikhulise employee, Sakhile Dlamini said, “I have been unemployed for almost 4 years but this project has given me an opportunity to build houses and make a living.”
Zikhulise representative Sboniso Xaba, said, “ It is gratifying to see the commitment by employees- they ensure that work is done on time, and houses are built appropriately.”
