Secretary General of South African Council of Churches Malusi Mpulwana said the improvement is welcome but it is still going to be difficult for many churches with larger congregations as they hoped that under level 1 they will be provision as the same in Casinos.
Mpulwana explained that it is an advantage for those who worship outdoors, especially the Nazareth Baptist church as they can accommodate 500 people because they hold their services outdoors. Mpulwana also encouraged people to practice safety measures in church.
“We might be in level one in South Africa, but the virus does not know levels, it still travels from one person to another in every opportunity,” he said.
Luyanda Zulu who attends the Nazareth Baptist Church said she is excited and worried about the safety around the new regulations.
“As a church goer, I think the increment of the number allows more room for other people to church, but this means people have to be more careful in terms of sanitising and social distancing,” she said.
