Eziqhingini residents can now enjoy a new sport field.
This comes after Ubuhle Bezwe Municipality came in rescue to build the field.
Eziqhingini is a small village that is located near Highflats Ixopo in the South coast of Durban.
The village has been using a stranded place as a field. The majority of people who are using the field are youngsters of the village.
Makhaotse Khutso from Ubuhlebezwe Municipality said that they saw the need of building a new field after an incident that took place last year where two boys were killed by tractor
while playing in the bush.
“What happened last year was horrific so that is why this year we built this field for both young boys and girls. This field is safer and parents can easily spot their children while
playing,” he said.
According to parent Thandekile Mqadi, the fenced field has a green grass field, changing rooms and netball court.
“We are so grateful for the field our children will play in a safe environment and the girls will also have activities to do like netball,” Mqadi said.
She added that this will curb the concerns of all parents in the village about young girls who fall pregnant, some claiming to have nothing to do.
Nomusa Dlamini, a grade 11 learner said, “Now that we have netball court I think most young girls in the village will see the purpose and need of the court to utilize it and stay away
from the boys.”
