No arrests after DSW attack

Despite acting Durban mayor Fawzia Peer calling the attack of five Durban Solid Waste workers in Umlazi this past weekend an act of treason, police have confirmed no case has been opened following the incident.
The attack happened after eThekwini announced that it would insource workers for refuse collection, which is believed to have left many hopeful contractors without work. The disgruntled contractors’ hostile reaction to the municipal decision has left Umlazi filthy as refuse has not been collected for several weeks.
“There are no records of the related incident reported to the police,” a response to a query sent to the KZN Police Media Centre.
In a statement sent to the media after the incident Peer said she was appalled by what she called “the barbaric behaviour of the attackers”.
“Our residents of Umlazi deserve much better and there is nothing that is going to stand in our way to carry out this plan of insourcing,” Peer said.
This is a developing story.
