Oscar Pistorius arrived at Westkoppies Psychiatric Hospital in Johannesburg on the 26 May just before 9am to begin his mental observation.
Murder accused Pistorius arrived under tight security to start his observation. He will be evaluated by four specialists to see whether his general anxiety disorder and his disability had an effect on him thus resulting in the death of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
Just after 10am on Tuesday last week, Judge Thokozile Mapisa ruled that Pistorius would be admitted as an outpatient at Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital. This follows after forensic psychiatrist Merryll Vorster diagnosed Oscar with general anxiety disorder and thus the state applied to have him referred.
Pistorius, who is on trial for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, will attend daily evaluations at Westkoppies from 09:00 until 16:00. Pistorius will remain under observation until the trial resumes on the 30th June where the results of the evaluation will be announced or until he is released.
“The accused will be an outpatient at Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital,” Judge Thokozile Masipa said.
The Paralympian will begin a mental health evaluation. This will include neuropsychological tests, personality tests and tests for malingering. Judge Mapisa said that the appointed psychiatrists and psychologist will submit reports as they are concluded and records of the trial proceedings must be made available.
