Community members of Peaceville 3, in Pietermaritzburg are living in fear as this place has turned into a nest for criminals.
Community members say they get robbed in broad daylight, and they also said that these robbers come disguised as police members in police uniforms.
A community member who asked to remain anonymous said what hurts them the most is that if they report to the police they do not get help and they are ignored.
“We want clarity on which police station we need to use because we are located on top of a mountain that is under ward-26 and even our ward councilor does not even bother to come and hear our cries. We are just a lost place no one cares about and at this point we don’t know what to do,”She said.
Another community member living in fear, Mthunzini Zuma (not his real name), said that they are now living in fear in this place and they do not have anyone to turn to.
“We fend for ourselves, once you open a spaza shop they come and rob your shop and they kill people as if it is a game in this place. We have livestock but today we are left with nothing on our name, ” Said Zuma.
The community also revealed that not so long ago a man in his 70’s was attacked and robbed his pension card and identity document and later was bitten with an axe and he is fighting for his life in hospital.
In a statement the Plessislaer Police station’s spokesperson said that this is their first time hearing the information about Peaceville the abandoned community.
“If the community is unhappy with how the SAPS operate in the area, they have to go to the station and if they also don’t get the help they need they need to go to the station Commanders office and if they also don’t get help there they need to go to the district commissioner Major-General Phumelele Makhoba, there they will get help,” read the statement.
