“PHAMBILI WITH COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT”

Hammersdale Athletics Club in partnership with Ulwazi Group hosted the Ulwazi half race and fun run yesterday in Hammersdale, Mpumalanga Township.
Local residents of all ages took part in the different races and received support from their families.
“My 55-year-old grandmother took part in the 10 km fun walk, even though she was third from last, it was fun watching her run the race,” said local nurse Sindiswa Ngcobo.
After a long wait for the 21km race, last year’s champ Siphosakhe Mokwena was first on the finish line. Thabo Xulu followed Mokwena closely as he came in a minute after. Mokwena said that the race was not easy but he thought of his daughter when he was running.
“My daughter needs money for registration, she was my inspiration,” said Mokwena.
In his speech, Ulwazi Group executive chairperson Bongani Mabizela said, “Let’s do away with crime and drugs amongst our youth. We need to empower our youth in order to have a sustainable future development in Mpumalanga.”
Ward councillor Lucky Mgwengwe said that he is grateful for all that Mabizela has done for the community and he appreciates the support from the community.
