PREPARATIONS UNDERWAY FOR YOUTH MONTH

There has been much comparison of today’s youth and the youth of 1976, much talk about what we are not doing instead of what we are doing.
That is according to the Young Generational Thinkers’ Kanyisa Booi who spoke at a Democracy Development Youth Network (DDPYN) dialogue between various organizations at Democracy Development Programme offices on Smith Street on Wednesday .
The dialogue was aimed at bringing youth organizations to gather and share challenges and possibilities about the promotion of youth participation structures.
The coordinator at YMCA, Sanele Makhathini, feels that the youth does not have space where they express themselves.
“We should start a platform where there is more of a youth voice,” he said.
In preparation for youth month, the DDPYN has decided to host an event celebrating the South African youth on the 28th of June.
Linda Lazarczykova, dialogue facilitator at DDP said that the event is to show the whole world that South African youth are not useless and lazy.
“It is a celebration of the South African youth and should be made clear,” Lazarczykova said.
The event will have entertaining performances and activities such as poetry and art.
The DDPYN dialogues commenced in 2014 and in every dialogue participants seek to arrive at a common understanding of the challenges and problems on how to promote youth development and youth empowerment in the future.
