R MASHESHA LAID TO REST

By: Mhleli Mkhize
King Zweilithini Stadium was filled with uMlazi residents and prominent people of all calibers as R Masesha (real name Sbusiso Khomo) was laid to rest at his homestead this past
weekend.
The fallen star died last week Friday following a complication after an operation.
It was a sad goodbye for his family and friends and a great loss for his fellow group members Mampitsha, Danger and their boss DJ Tira who sat together on the front row of the VIP
marquee.
Amongst people who attended the funeral was KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Arts and Culture Ntombikayise Sibhidla Saphetha who said, “Khomo was a great inspiration to young people
and old people not only in the township of uMlazi but throughout South Africa, this is a great loss to music fans.”
Sibhidla Saphetha also encouraged young artists to follow the good example of R Mashesha by becoming professional artists.
Mampintsha who could not hold his tears said, “Reality has just stricken me that my fellow brother is no longer with us. It feels like yesterday when we made it through to the music
industry and made a name for ourselves. Mashesha was a huge part of the puzzle for Big Nuz, without him it will just never be the same but we have to hold on.”
Syabonga Khomo, brother of the deceased, conveyed the family’s gratitude to everyone who had supported the family through their hard time. He acknowledged DJ Tira and Tzozo for
assisting in the preparations of the funeral.
Afrotaiment artists, Somizi Mhlongo and Sifiso Ncwane, surrounded R Mashesha’s coffin as they sent him off in song and dance.
The group has just released an album that has hit stores and DJ Tira said, “There are other performances that were not released which have the voice of Mashesha so people can expect
hearing his voice even after his passing.”
