KwaZulu-Natal provincial task team recovered stolen copper cables worth R3 million in a shack at Kwa-Mashu A section, police said on Tuesday.
“The team was following their investigation when they stormed an informal settlement in Kwa-Mashu,” said Colonel Jay Naicker.
“After a search of dwellings in the informal settlement they discovered the shack that was utilized as warehouse for storing the stolen copper cables,” added Naicker.
Metrorail, Telkom, Eskom and Municipal departments were called to the scene to identify that which may belong them. So far only Metrorail and eThekwini Municipality have identified some copper cables as their own. Further investigations are underway as no arrests have been made.
Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, commended the Provincial Task Team. “We will take this investigation further and we will not rest until we expose those individuals that were responsible for stealing these cables and bring them to book,” she said.
