Radio icon, Bob Mabena dies at 51

Mzansi entertainment industry has suffered another great loss as the radio icon, Bob Mabena dies from a suspected cardiac attack.
The 51 year-old was a well-known talented media personality especially in radio and television. Yesterday, Power FM released a statement that Mabena succumbed to a heart failure.
“It is with deep grief and pain that we announce that POWER 98.7 Breakfast Host, Mr Bob Mabena passed away this afternoon, Monday 10 August 2020, from cardiac arrest. The family is coming to terms with his passing and respectfully requests the public to afford them the appropriate space. Further details will be communicated in due course,” reads the release.
Mabena’s passion for radio began to show around year 1989 at Radio Bop. After spending three years at Radio Bop, he was recruited by the founding Station Manager of Radio Metro, Koos Radebe.
For over thirty years in broadcasting, Mabena has worked for different radio stations such as Stereo, Kaya FM, Power FM and other popular media houses.
Mabena’s death comes as a shock in two months after he posted on Twitter updating his followers about the loss of his beloved grandmother that had died of COVID-19.
In that tweet, Mabena wrote: “So sad for your loss Ntando. Your experience is almost the same with my grandmother this past week. She contracted Covid in a hospital whilst going in for a lung infection. Within 3 days, she was gone. The hospitals aren’t ready”.
