Residents of KwaMakhutha are angry at the municipality over potholes and storm water that has affected the community for almost two months.
Resident Ziyanda Zulu said that these began when one of the sewage in the place burst and was not fixed.
Residents added that the disturbing part was that they always see the municipality cars wandering the street but not fixing the sewage.
“There is no day that will pass without seeing the cars thinking they are here to fix this mess but not,” said Zulu.
The potholes affect drivers who regularly use the road.
“This road is badly damaged and the potholes have been a pain to us drivers and it ruined the car tyres,” said one of the drivers, Siyabonga Shezi.
The eThekwini Municipality Road and Storm Water Senior Manager, Peter Dally, said that he was surprised that potholes are not being repaired in the Council roads.
“We are proactive about repairing potholes and endeavor to repair same within 48 hours from the time of being aware of the holes,” Dally said.
The busted sewage has made residents fear for their health due to the smell and dirt it has caused in the area. They also complain about mosquitoes biting their children.
Resident Bongiwe Dube is living across the street that has been affected by the sewage with her kid..
“At night we hardly sleep. We have tried almost every insect killer but it still the same.
We need the municipality to intervene,” she said.
