ROAD CARNAGE LEADS TO ILLEGAL MEASURES BY COMMUNITY

The victims of road carnage in Unit2 have taken matters into their own hands after a few complaints and applications to the local municipality seemed to fail.
“We have witnessed road carnage on a regular basis. So we decided to drill the roads in a way that would slow these ‘mad’ drivers down,” David Nzimande a local resident said.
The local residents have reportedly applied and complained a few times to the local municipality and counsellor about the accidents on the road.
“The roads were drilled late in March 2015 and nothing has changed since, the roads have stayed the way they are and the municipality and counsellor still seem to be not bothered by
any of this, maybe because they don’t have children, cars or use this road,” said Ndumiso Mkhize a local resident
According to Nzimande, several people a year end up dead or crippled as a results of this matter.
“I witnessed a neighbour’s seven-year-old being hit by a van. That family has never been compensated and it has been more than five years,” said local resident Andile Shezi.
Not every resident is for the idea of taking matters into their own hands given that drivers are not the same.
Despite several attempts, the counsellor was unavailable for comment.
