A vehicle travelling on the Higginson Highway in Chatsworth, has fallen prey to brazen rock -throwers after the back windscreen of the car, was shattered.
Mickey Naidoo, driver of the vehicle said, “I was travelling in the middle lane, doing approximately 100km per hour, when my wife and I heard a loud bang that sounded like an
explosion. When I looked at the rear view mirror, I saw that the back windscreen had been hit by something.”
Naidoo added, “Even though I was shocked about what just happened, I refused to stop and continued driving.”
In recent times, there have been many victims of rock throwing on the Higginson Highway.
Basil Govender, of the Malvern SAPS stated, “There have been many victims of rock throwing which has led to fatal car-crashes and serious injuries.”
He added that many of these rock throwers are hi-jackers, waiting to pounce on people who
stop to check the damage on their cars.
“People need to be more vigilant when approaching over-head bridges as criminals throw rocks in an attempt to stall the vehicle , if you find yourself in a similar situation drive to your
nearest police station or drive to a place with a lot of people , ” Govender said.
Another victim Bhavna Pillay said, “I think there should be more police on the Higginson Highway to monitor criminal activity preferably in the mornings and evenings so that drivers
can at least feel safer on our roads.”
